A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of pursuits far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and employing meditation skills to avoid yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items emerged over the holidays, and should you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not been disclosed yet.
