Dominant Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
